Folktales on a literary platter.

Interested in reading and sharing your work with the Folktale audience?

We'd love to have you.

Though we accept work across subjects, we love texts that capture the many faces of life and humanity. Work that sheds light on new ways of thinking, seeing, or interacting with the world.

Move us with your story of living this wonderful life.

We particularly love work that address family lore and traditions. You know those folktales your family shares at every reunion or Thanksgiving? Capture them in poem, flash fiction, journaling, or a mini-essay, and send them to us.

Some guidelines:

  • Keep it Clean--We are family friendly.
  • Keep it Positive--We aim to inspire and uplift.
  • Keep it Real--We know that life can leave you feeling raw and vulnerable--capture that.
  • Keep it Original--We believe in your voice, so give it to us.
  • Keep it Short--We provide ten minutes of air time for every artist.

Include a short bio (roughly 2-3 lines, to be read on air), and a longer bio that tells us more about who you are.

*Important: Include your bio(s) and a few different reading proposals (3-4 poems, or 2-3 story/narratives) in the body of the email. Be sure to label, so we know what we're reading. Please do not send any attachments.

If you are chosen, we will need a cropped photo to share on the blog alongside your bio. You will also need the ability to Skype call or have us phone call you on a quiet landline.

Email your text proposal with Reading Proposal in the subject line to: thefolktale [ at ]  gmail [ dot ] com

We look forward to reading your work.
